The Strides are back at the Hero!!!
Catch us as we make a stop at our hometown for some groovin reggae, dancehall, hip hop and of course the killa Strides horn section!!!
Hailing from Sydney, THE STRIDES have become a new force for urban roots music. Fronted by Reggae Master Ras Roni from Barbados via London, and Fijian MC LTL G-Zeus, The Strides have delivered their classic sound to crowds across the country, delivering a musical experience that is as powerfully explosive as it is authentic.
With two acclaimed albums already under their belt, a European label signing, festival appearances across the country and having graced the stage with the likes of Julian Marley, Tony Allen and Groundation, The Strides’ music faithfully builds on the foundations of classic roots reggae with a hip-hop edge, forging a sound that brings together modern dance hall, world beats and reggae-pop. The Strides have forged a truly global sound melding a diversity of cultures and instrumentation under the one universal consciousness.
With a calling card of powerfully melodic horns, infectious bass lines, easy musings and a magnetic stage presence between its two lead vocalists, the Strides are an 8-piece collective of multi talented songwriters and musicians. Having bunkered down for an intensive week long hothouse of jamming and songwriting, the tracks for their forthcoming long player were laid down at U-Live Studios outside of Byron Bay, and later mixed at Tanuki Lounge in Brisbane’s West End by producer / engineer Paulie B.
‘One for One’ is the new single by the band and the first taste of the aforementioned forthcoming third album, set for early 2014 release. ‘One for One’ showcases the talents and rhymes of LTL Gzeus alongside the incredible vocals of future-soul rising star Ngaiire, in a song about self realisation, self-discovery, and coming to terms with a new world that is not what you expected. It’s a mark of that time in your life when everything is still new and curiosity has its first real go at you. The life you learn is not the life you know. One for the money, one for the lovin’ – One for One.
‘One for One’ is out Friday July 26th through Earshift Records. The Strides will be launching it around the country:
Support: Chuparosa
From the beautiful South Coast of Sydney emerges Chuparosa, a new musical force of reggae grooves and funky vibes and everything in-between. The concept started in early 2012, as most bands do, a bunch of musical friends getting together to start a new project. However it wasn’t until April 2013 until the first jam session occurred and immediately the early members knew they were onto something good. The next three and a half month’s consisted of jamming and writing and filling in holes in the bands line-up to complete the eight-headed monster that is Chuparosa.
Lead vocals is Tay Plain, deriving from a immensely diverse musical background with many successful projects in his history, his vocal range and adaptability make him the perfect front-man. On guitar is Kyle Jacobs, with past works covering from Jazz to Pop-Punk, he is the perfect fit for the driving rhythm and sweet lines you can expect to hear. On bass is the one and only Tim Dennis, it would probably be quicker to list the things this man hasn’t done and he knows his way around music like he does his hometown of Thirroul. On percussion is the dark haired and dreamy eyed Marc ‘Tahiti’ Richardson, hailing from the beautiful Pacific nation of Tahiti, he has taken to the music like a duck to water and add’s an irreplaceable depth to the sound. Striking the keys is Mark Meleisea, calling the land of the long white cloud his home, he fills out the sound of Chuparosa leaving you “beeched az” and wanting more. On trumpet/trombone is Kyle Eardley, with studies at the Conservatorium of Music this guy means business and the other half of the horn section is Isaac Beard. What he lacks in height he makes up for in smooth tone, and he is sure to get the panties flying! And keeping it all together is Mikey Beckett on drums, with more cymbals than you can poke a stick at to keep himself occupied and a vast appreciation for music in general, he certainly is the Consistency that keeps this funky train rolling!
With there first show selling out the legendary Yours and Owl’s cafe on the 27th of July 2013, plus supports booked for reggae heavyweights Kingtide and The Strides in late September, 2013 looks to be the perfect debut year for Chuparosa.
