De Workshop! Dancehall workshops

Caribbean Sydney is excited to present the “De Workshop!”, as part of the NSW Dancehall King and Queen Competiton.

A four hour session of dancehall dancing, all under one roof, for one price and one day. *(2 workshop passes also available)

Immerse yourself in dancehall dance workshops and develop your skills with some of Australia’s most accomplished dancehall teachers!

This is definitely a day for you to learn about dancehall dancing, develop your dancehall skills and knowledge. Make sure to come prepared to dance, and ask lots of questions during our panel discussion during the break at 2.30pm.

Workshops are open level.

Instructors include:

Cat Pwiti (Melbourne) – Jungle City Studios

Expect a truly authentic Jamaican dancehall workshop with this great dancer and instructor at ‘De Workshop’. Cat is the founder of Burncity Queenz (Melbourne’s first official Dancehall dance group), and the first Australian to compete in Jamaica. Cat has supported legendary Dancehall artists including Cecile, Demarco, Gappy Ranks, Leftside and Elephant Man and is here to share her skills and experience with you.

Tiana Canterbury (Sydney) – Your Hip Hop Class

You will be in great hands with this talented instructor whose skills have seen her as one of the lead choreographer’s on channel 10’s hit show “So You Think You Can Dance”, Channel 7’s X Factor, The Voice and Channel 10’s “EVERYBODY DANCE NOW”. Tiana will be bringing you her energetic style of “Afro Dancehall” to De Workshop!

Sarine Perdedjian (Sydney) – Sarine Perdedjian – Dancer/Choreographer/Teacher

You will be in for a treat with Sarines fantastic bad-man style dancehall workshop at ‘De Workshop’. Sarine focuses on the cultural celebration of the foundational dances and its origins, as well as tuning in on movement quality, grooves and intricate musicality. With a Certificate IV in Performing Arts at Urban Dance Centre and completing her bachelor in Dance..you are in the hands of an amazing dancer and performer.

Awa N’Gom – Dance Central Sydney

Expect a vibrant and action filled dancehall workshop from this special guest, hailing from The Netherlands. Awa, having grown up dancing and performing in numerous styles such as Hip Hop, turned her focus to dancehall 6 years ago and has also travelled to Jamaica to keep in touch with this constantly evolving dance culture. Awa’s focus and determination has seen her, along with her team, make it to the live shows of “Hollands Got Talent”. In this workshop, Awa represents not only The Netherlands but also Dance Central, one of Sydney’s well known cultural dance hubs.
