Ed Solo & Radikal Guru – Byron Bay Show
The 4’20’ Sound is proud to announce the arrival of two of the greatest bass music DJ producers for a massive night of Jungle and Dubwise at the Beach Hotel Byron Bay this coming Monday
RADIKAL GURU, the iconic prodcucer of Moonshine Recordings & ED SOLO, one of the domintating Jungle and DnB DJ producers in the world.
The two will meet in Byron Bay on Monday the 6th of February as part of their 2017 Australia Tour.
++ Radikal Guru ++ One of the brightest lights of the roots-influenced underground community for the past half-decade, Poland born Mateusz Miller has pioneered a compelling and unique fusion of sounds that encompass dub, reggae and dubstep under his Radikal Guru moniker. Inspired by an appreciation of soundsystem culture, his music has become synonymous with suffocating degrees of dread bassweight, vibrant and eclectic palettes of tone, and varying energy levels that cater for both dancefloor focussed ruckus and for more meditative listening. Heavily influenced by the likes of King Tubby and Scientist, Matt first gained worldwide acclaim and recognition through a string of killer 12” releases on leading reggae/dubstep imprint Dubbed Out, before forming a creative partnership with fellow label Moonshine Recordings where he has gone on to cement his reputation as one of the strongest proponents of the scene. His Moonshine discography boasts highlights that include his debut LP ‘The Rootstepa’ the mighty ‘Dread Commandments’ 12” and his second album ‘Subconscious’, and keep an eye out for some seriously exciting developments in the pipeline.
Not only an talented producer, Matt is also a fine selector, conveying his passion for music through DJ sets that pay homage to the sound and culture’s rich history as much as they showcase the freshest cuts of sonic innovation from himself and his contemporaries. He has hit spots all around the world to assault soundsystems with bass-fuelled beats and positive vibes. Catch Matt bringing heat to a series of festivals this summer, and with a landmark tour yet to be announced, there is plenty to look forward to on the horizon.
++ Ed Solo ++ Strangely enough for an artist named Ed Solo, this prolific producer used to be best known for his collaborations with other artists. Deekline, Krafty Kuts, Skool of Thought, drum ‘n’ bass legend Brockie – all have benefited from getting Ed alongside them in the studio. The east London lad who grew up listening to pirate radios and cut his teeth as a production assistant at the famous Sour studios really is a Jedi master of sonic science: drop the needle on an Ed Solo record and you’ll soon know about it – no one makes club music that cuts through a soundsystem quite like him.
And yet that moniker also – rightly – suggests a confidence in his ability to go out on his own, and Ed is an iconic artist on each of the drum ‘n’ bass, breaks and dubstep scenes. In the latter field, he’s recently been creating a firestorm with Sludge Records, the label he co-runs with Deekline (the pair also run booty breaks imprint Hot Cakes together).
Tracks such as Age of Dub and Atlantis have introduced younger clubbers to classic dance music sounds, throwing them through a skanked out half-time prism and bringing them back to the floor in full effect. They’ve also picked up support from iconic figures such as Kissy Sellout and Skream – this is a producer right at the heart of the zeitgeist.
In the club, Ed is at the centre of one of the most innovative revolutionary shows of modern times, the Battlejam events run with production partner and UK DMC Champ JFB and UK beatbox champ Beardyman. Working together, the trio cut, scratch and loop up live audio recordings – some made by members of the crowd only seconds before – to create an entirely new, interactive, real-time experience.
Monday 6th of February at The Beach Hotel – 8.30 pm start $10 entry!
