As winter kicks in, we have all the ingredients to keep things toasty as the world famous Jamaica Jump-Up returns to the Gaso with a piping hot line up of live performance and selections bringing the best in early reggae, rocksteady and ska goodness.
Fresh from backing Angel City Records’ freshest emerging star Jackie Mendez at the Newport Ska, Reggae and Rocksteady Festival, we are proud to present The Here Here’s making their Jamaica Jump-Up debut! One of Melbourne’s finest all instrumental groups – The Here Here’s are bringing back the summer of ’69 to play a razor sharp Jump-Up set inspired by the boss bluebeat sounds of Lee Perry and The Upsetters, Lloyd Charmer’s incomparable Hippy Boys, the great Ansell Collins and Studio One rhythm aces – Sound Dimension.
The full force of The Here Here’s line up of Handsome Dan Marsh (organ and piano), Rohan “Family Boy” Sherlock (bassie), the cool hand of Luke Collins on the drum kit and Nigel Wright on percussion. Plus, current Jamaica Jump-Up world record holding guitarist Baz Turnbull who has played with the likes of Mista Savona and Jamaican music legends The Official Keith and Tex, Stranger Cole, The Congos, Prince Alla and more. Baz’ guitar magic will, on this special occasion, be augmented by the solid gold stylings of none other than Rodrigo Pino (The Moonhops) on extra guitar.
Plus, keeping the floor shaking will be PBS 106.7FM Melbourne’s own Mohair Slim (Blue Juice Radio Show), Rick Howe (Riddim Yard) and Jesse I (Babylon Burning radio show) on the decks with guest selectors Coco Brown, Miss Fee and Fabulous Fez digging out their finest 45s, plus Kilmarnock Steve (Ska Vendors, Melbourne Ska Orchestra) on the vibes as MC!
Party from 9pm-3am – Door sales only – get down early to avoid missing out!
As always, PBS members $10 and future members $15. If you haven’t become a PBS member yet, it’s not too late to sign up and go in the running for our major prizes for PBS Radio Festival! It’s just One Small Step.
