More Fire at Deep 11 – featuring Earl Gateshead (Trojan) TONIGHT!
Since its creation in 1968, the Trojan record label has led the way in presenting the very best in classic Jamaican sounds; from the rocksteady and early reggae sounds that dominated in the years of its launch, up to roots and foundation dancehall. When the Trojan Sound System was formed in 2004 to represent the label in England and around the world, Earl Gateshead was a natural choice as selector.
Earl Gateshead began DJing in Brixton in 1979. He is well known in London for his 20 year residency at The Dive Bar in London’s Chinatown, and his Saturday residency at the legendary Blue Note club. He has worked as selector and MC with Cutty Ranks, Big Youth, Dr Alimantado, and Dennis Alcapone, and his reggae nights at Plastic People have received worldwide recognition.
For More Fire # 132, Earl Gateshead will be taking us on a musical journey through reggae music history. Chant Down residents Jesse I and Ras Crucial will also be joined by guest selectors Mamacita Bonnita, and Sista Sara. All styles of Jamaican music til the early morning – good vibes guaranteed!
More Fire # 132 takes place on Saturday 11th February at Deep 11 (Mercat Cross Hotel basement, 456 Queen St, City). Doors open at 10pm, with a cover of $12 or $10 for concession holders, and PBS FM members.
