“Reclamation” National Tour 2011

Sydney’s Reggae, Afrobeat and hip hop extraordinaires, The Strides have taken giant steps forward in the past twelve months. In early 2011, their sophomore album ‘Reclamation’ was released to glowing reviews, as well as scoring them a well deserved ABC Radio National ‘Album of the Week’. Taking strides to reclaim Australia this November, the eight-piece will embark on ‘The Strides National Reclamation Tour’ bringing their signature melting pot of sounds to a venue near you.

Stepping back to 2009, The Strides made their mark with their self-titled debut album, accompanied by a string of non-stop touring. Since then the octet have taken their unique blend of Roots Reggae, Dub, Dance hall and Nigerian inspired Afrobeat to the Bellingen Global Carnival, Darling Harbour Jazz & Blues Festival, Reggae Fest Ballina, Caloundra Music Fest and Peats Ridge Festival. The Strides have also supported the likes of Nigerian Afrobeat heavy weight Tony Allen and Californian Reggae stars Groundation.

Fronted by Reggae master Ras Roni, from Barbados via London, and Fijian MC Ltl GZEUS (Little Jesus), ‘Reclamation’ faithfully channels the sounds of Bob and Damian Marley, Fela Kuti, Tony Allen, Barrington Levy and The Skatalites, whilst still forging a unique sound that defies genre.

Featuring powerfully melodic horns, infectious bass lines and authentic vocals, this troupe of music makers are comprised of some of the Australian music industry’s leading musicians. Individually they have toured and recorded as members and session artists with some of Australia’s top bands including; Thirsty Merc, The Beautiful Girls, Watussi, Dereb And The Ambassador, The Panics, Lisa Mitchell and The Vampires, to name a few.

With such an array of talent in one group, it’s no wonder The Strides are in high demand, recently inking a deal with European label “Record Kicks” based in Milan, for European and North American distribution. Locally, ‘The Strides National Reclamation Tour’ will play capital cities and some regional areas on their biggest and most exciting national tour yet.
