Ras Jahknow and Sona Productions are excited to announce Melbourne’s iconic reggae band, Ras Jahknow Band are supporting the International, multi award winning artist from Ghana, Afro Moses Ojah on the Victorian leg of his National tour.

Both artists are powerful, dynamic performers who consistently enchant audiences with high-energy music and powerful messages. Afro Moses’ showmanship and colourful stage presence, along with his multi-instrumental abilities invites every audience to interact with the band, which creates an amazing party atmosphere. The stage shows guarantee to uplift, transport, inspire and move all involved. Dance, jump, sweat and shout!

Born in Ghana, Afro Moses Ojah hit the charts as a teenager and is labelled as The African James Brown. Later, he was taken to Denmark, where they lapped up his infectious music. From there, he started touring the world and has stunned audiences right across the globe.

He has shared the stage with some incredible artists such as Ziggy Marley, Youssou Ndour and many more. A multi-award winner Afro Moses has won awards such as best song, best album, best live act and has been twice voted as Ghanas best International Music Ambassador in 2000 and 2002. He was also involved in the performance and composition of music that featured on the short film Inja that was a nominee in the 2003 Oscar Awards. Afro Moses is a singer, composer, multi-instrumentalist and teacher of music. A natural performer, whose star quality shines and pulls audiences in like a magnet.

Ras Jahknow Band – formed in late 2010, have cemented themselves as one of Melbourne’s most well loved reggae ensembles, showcasing at 2014 Antenna Awards and performing at numerous festivals such as St Kilda Festival, Brunswick Music Festival, Jamaican Music & Food Festival, Bob Marley Birthday Bash, Strawberry Fields 2017, African Music and Cultural Festival French festival, Emerge Festival, Tanglewood Festival, Viva Victoria Festival Fed Square and far too many more to mention. The band also scooped up awards in the Australia Reggae Radio’s Reggae on the Red Carpet Awards held in April this year, for Best Reggae Performer and Band of the Year.

Joining the party are Chant Down Sound – Melbourne’s original reggae dancehall crew was formed in 2000 when radio presenter Jesse I, linked with long-time reggae selector Ras Crucial. Chant Down play in the contemporary Jamaican style, mixing the freshest reggae and dancehall together with vintage classics, custom dubplate specials, and live MCing.

Chant Down’s monthly Chant Down presents More Fire night is the longest running reggae session in Australia and they have hosted international artists including THIRD WORLD, Lucky dube, The Gladiators, Junior Reid, Michael Rose, Chaka Demus & Pliers, Jah Mason, and GAPPY RANKS; performed countless gigs and festivals in Melbourne, interstate, and abroad; and played support for acts including Chronixx, Lee Scratch Perry (official), Big Youth, @Luciano, Horace Andy, Demarco, Anthony B, Elephant Man, Johnny Osbourne, and many more.

***JUST ADDED to the bill are Immy Owusu’s Magic Butter Machine who are local artists with a great sound of high-life roots rock revival. Immy is a multi-instrumental songwriter known primarily as the drummer for young indigenous powerhouse Yirrmal and Surf Coast Indie-Rockers Children of the Sun. In 2015 he went over to West Africa to study with his grandfather Koo Nimo, a highly renowned Ghanaian High-Life musician and returned from Ghana with a heavily African influenced Roots-Rock sound. Immy likes to write music while sitting up in the trees along Spring Creek in his coastal hometown of Torquay, Victoria.
