Soaking Up Rays Single Launch
Location351 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy, VIC 3065 Australia
It’s here! Soaking Up Rays, the newest single off our upcoming LP! Join us in a celebration of new music, culture and vibes. Joining us are Echo Drama and King Charlie’s School Of Dub.
Fronted by the dynamic vocal duo of Zimbabwean soul singer Thando Sikwila and rising Melbourne emcee Sinks, 9-piece Dub, Reggae, Hip Hop outfit Echo Drama push the boundaries of Jamaican and Urban music from traditional Roots to new school Ragga flavours. The result is a sound at once steeped in the traditions of Dub and Reggae but also unafraid to draw on modern manifestations such as Hip Hop, Dancehall and DnB.
“The dynamism of Melbourne nine-piece, Echo Drama is a thing of wonder. A downright dreamy combination of traditional reggae and contemporary hip-hop and RnB will have you hooked within mere moments of your first listening. ” – AU Review
In 3 years of existence the band has developed a refined live show performing regularly across local stages, residencies, festival appearances and international supports with highlights such as Easy Star All Stars (USA), The Skatalites (Jamaica), The Hills Are Alive, St Kilda Festival, Inca Roads Festival and Folk Rhythm & Life.
“Echo Drama play a seamless melding of hip hop and reggae that conveys a pure, grooving happiness…it is impossible not to dance and sway to the infectious music” –Tonedeaf.com.au
In addition to storming the live circuit, the last 18 months have seen Echo Drama release both their debut EP “Bury The Weapons” and follow up remix album “Remix The Weapons”. Both records continue to amass radio play across Australia on Triple J, PBS, RRR, FBI and 4ZZZ to name but a few and were both featured in PBS top 10 records across 2014.
“Their debut EP, Bury The Weapons, showcases their ability to celebrate the traditions of Dub and Reggae, resulting in a collection songs that are both playful and soulful.” – What Sound Melbourne
With Echo Drama and their sound continuing to evolve and grow, 2015 will see the band recording a full length album, performing at several festivals around Australia (NYE On The Hill, Rainbow Serpent Festival, St Kilda Festival already confirmed) and continuing to build on it’s reputation for incendiary live shows across local stages.
“While respectfully doffing their various bits of headgear to those who came before them, Dub/Reggae juggernaut Echo Drama have prioritised good music over pigeon holes in a band where the musical influences are almost as diverse as its audience appeal” – Beat Magazine
