Celebrating the Honorary and Legendary Bob Marley’s Birthday
★ Sunny Dread is an Australian Reggae artist, singer and songwriter, whose musical career started two decades ago in Jamaica, where while following the roots of Jamaican Reggae he formed his own style with a unique Aussie/Caribbean twist. Sunny has been considerably influenced by Australian Indigenous storytelling, which has become one of his most passionate influences and is heard through the lyrics of his music.
Sunny’s career began in the early 1990’s, where he played around clubs and venues around all the main Australian cities, when in 2004 he entered Australian Idol. In Australian Idol he was named “the most memorable and unforgettable moment”, with his reggae performance which was cover of Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song”.
This then lead to Sunny recording a single, “Never Stop Singing” that in 2006 reached the third most popular music hit on Australian radio. After this Sunny took a break in his musical career, and worked with Indigenous youth in North Queensland.
★ Throughout this time Sunny worked with Indigenous tribes and learned about Rastafarian music, which is where his Indigenous influence began. Sunny’s music began to take a positive shape for all audiences regardless of gender, race, or colour.
In 2008 Sunny moved to Brisbane to continue his musical career with his spurt of new inspiration, Ragga Reggae. Sunny’s musical career then started to follow a political trend, leading him down the path of Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer and Lucky Dube.
★ Sunny Joined the West End Jah Army and World Beat, where with Rudikat Records and Tanuki Lounge he hosted many compilations on popular festivals such as Island Vibe cds, where he performed in 2008-2010, and the Kuranda Roots Festival cds in 2009-2010.
During this time Sunny produced the hit “You Can’t Say (Music)”. He then joined Dynamic Trills, a roots and blues reggae band in West End, Brisbane. Where in 2010 he dropped a teaser album as their lead vocalist and the overall band leader titled, “Guide and Bless”. With plugs and shout outs from Luciano, Micky General, Horace Andy and Jack Scorpio. This Album was recorded in Melbourne, Australia at the Multicultural Centre Studio in 2009.
