The Madtones x Sky Eater // Baddest Monday
Date10/02/2020
VenueBeach Hotel, Byron Bay
Location4-10 Bay Street<br>Byron Bay, NSW, Australia
Drawing on influences from Jamaican music, Motown and the South Pacific, The MadTones play an upbeat mix of reggae, ska and soul. Their style is unique and quirky, reflecting the band’s vibrant personalities. A warning to those experiencing their first MadTones live show – you will find yourself getting swept up in the euphoria of happy fun times, with a crooked smile on your face boogying down with random strangers. They actually challenge you to not dance – a task you will find impossible to do.
The MadTones name stems from the colour of their skin and their cultural backgrounds – Fijian, Aboriginal, Maori, Irish, and English. Their philosophy is that of one love and unity of cultures through music.
Fronting the band are Kazman, who is joined on vocals and guitar by Dougie Fresh and bassman Rudi Quinzalez. The multi talented Tashka Urban joins on keys, Winston Chadwick on dub guitar and drummers Ali Files and Nicky O.D. round out the gang.
The MadTones started as a busking duo at the local markets, however in early 2014 the full band was formed. With a weekly residency at Vision Gallery in West End, they quickly established a Brisbane fanbase and a reputation for making people jump. Small bar gigs gave way to main stages as the band played at Kuranda Roots festival, Island Vibe and West End’s Big Chill Festival. Within a year The MadTones had recorded a 6 track EP at U-Live Studio in Byron Bay, which was mixed and mastered by renowned Australian dub producer Paulie B.
