The 2017 TJDD Festival kicks off on the 3rd – 5th of February with the True Jamaican Dancehall dance, music and culture camp, held at PGL Campaspe Downs camp site – Kyneton, Victoria.
Immerse yourself in three jam packed days and two epic nights learning authentic JAMAICAN DANCEHALL DANCE first-hand from the creators and pioneers live and DIRECT FROM JAMAICA. Explore the history and the evolution of Dancehall dance, music, and culture, meet new friends from all over Australia and the world, and share your passion with our growing Australian Dancehall community.
Joining us in 2017, for her fourth year standing strong LATONYA STYLE (DanceJA CEO) will be heading the Jamaican contingent as our official Jamaican Dancehall ambassador, and this time will be accompanied by TWO fellow Jamaican dancers including the incredible KIMIKO VERSATILE and free flow master ZIDAN XQLUSIVE DANCER. Plus this year’s international and locally featured dancers are more impressive than ever including; Afro-Dancehall goddess for her second year running, all the way from Chicago (USA) STACY LETRICE, Ghanaian born West African dancer KWAME TOSUMA, and Aussy based dancers DHQ VISUALEE, KITTY CAT (BCQ), JASE ACEMAN, and the one and only DHK ALEXX DOWNUNDER with more TBA.
The PGL Campaspe Downs camp site is located on 160 acres of natural bushland on the outskirts of the beautiful Macedon Ranges – just over an hour drive from Melbourne – with two huge dance workshop spaces, a lecture room and culture space featuring patois and Jamaican cooking workshops, huge kitchen with FULLY CATERED JAMAICAN BIKKLE served up by di Boss men from The Real jerk Food Truck; and Nightly DANCEHALL PARTIES pumping Dancehall, Reggae, and Afrobeats by selektas and MC’s provided by I LOVE DANCEHALL and AUSTRALIAN REGGAE RADIO.
The camp features multiple accommodation and ticketing options to suit all ages and budgets including standard dorm accommodation, camping, day passes, private rooms, and transport provided from Melbourne Airport and CBD for interstate and international participants.
TJD Dance, music, culture Camp opens at 2pm on Friday 3rd Feb, with classes beginning at 3pm and closes with our final workshop finishing up by 4:00pm on Sunday 5th Feb. Workshops and activities include a carefully scheduled combination of Dancehall styles from old skool through to new skool, and styles connected to Dancehall history and evolution such as traditional African, Soca, Afrobeats, Jamaican folk, and stylish Moves. Classes are tailored for all level of skill from beginners to advanced, so everyone is welcome to participate and take it at your own pace!
