Born in England and raised on Jamaican culture, its no suprise that Damajah naturally started drumming to Reggae music at the early age of 5 years old. He would practice daily to bands like: Steel Pulse, Black Uhuru, Matumbi, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Roots Radics.
And playing along to artists such as: U-Roy, I-Roy, King Yellowman, Burning Spear, Frankie Paul.
Damajah’s father knew at an early age that he mastered the art of Reggae music and really wasnt intrested in any other of the greats from other genres around this time,
Moving to Australia age 11 years old Damajah joined his first Roots Reggae band “Lion” professionally playing from Wednesday to Sunday and rehearsing daily, As time went on Reggae music took some changes in the form of programmed drums for Dancehall music, It took Damajah a few attempts to keep up with the fast paced music but one day his father burst in and said “You got it!, You got it!” This led to forming a 9 to 10 piece Dancehall band “Bubble Up”.
Since then Damajah has been the drummer for 4 more Reggae bands but decided to also practice whats known as “Toasting” “Chatting” or “DJ’ing pon the Mic”.
Damajah started this behind closed doors and mastered the art of talking in the language known as Patois, originally he rapped because his second music love was hip-hop but finding that too easy he was up for a challenge.
Around 1998 he teamed up with Ramblah and started to venture out as an artist, armed with a Mic, a lead and some riddims they would go to various random clubs and mash up the party then move onto the next.
Damajah made himself a little home out of a club called Revolver being the main M.C. for most of the selectors that played on Reggae HipHop saturdays, During this time he was told “You have the whole of Melbourne, Australia talking about you” Damajah linked up with Ras Crucial and Jesse I to form Australia’s leading Sound “Chant Down Sound”.
Damajah has had the pleasure of supporting artists like Junior Reid, Jah Mason, Tippa Irie, Lucky Dube, Chaka Demus & Pliers, Luciano & Mikey General, Lee Scratch Perry, Anthony B, Cecile, Lukie D, Alpha Blondy, Sean Paul.
His most memorable moments were perfoming live with Third World and also Mad Professor.
Damajah made a trip to Jamaica finally, being the most inspirational move ever, in and out of Kingston’s best studio’s and making connections with artists and producers, but more so Damajah spent time to talk to everyday people and hear their struggles, Damajah finds it funny that many Jamaicans asked him “Which part a Jamaica yu come from?” It was strange but amazing to find that Damajah felt like he was home so much.
Upon returning back to Australia, Damajah toured round Australia for singer Vida-Sunshyne’s album release finally being treated and paid as an artist.
In this time Damajah was asked to play a major role in an album for legendary multi-talented West Coast G Funk singer Kokane, that opportunity was a major blessing to Damajah as his second love of music is G Funk hip-hop.
Damajah has expanded further to team up with Klassik Jay to form Dollar$ IN Stack$ Productions, taking care of production in Hip-Hop & Reggae music.
