Founded by Melbourne drummer and songwriter Jeremy Schiftan, 9-piece Dub/Reggae outfit Echo Drama are a unique combination of ingredients that transcend their genre labels. A sound that is at once steeped in the traditions of Dub and Reggae but unafraid to draw on a myriad of influences from unexpected musical counterparts.
“The dynamism of Melbourne nine-piece, Echo Drama is a thing of wonder. A downright dreamy combination of traditional reggae and contemporary hip-hop and RnB will have you hooked within mere moments of your first listening. ” – AU Review
In 8 years of existence the band has developed a refined live show performing regularly across local stages, residencies, festival appearances and international supports with highlights such as Easy Star All Stars (USA), The Skatalites (Jamaica), Maxi Priest (UK), Womadelaide, St Kilda Festival – Main Stage, NYE On The Hill, Strawberry Fields, Rainbow Serpent, The Hills Are Alive, Psyfari, Island Vibe Festival, Blenheim Fest and Folk Rhythm & Life.
“Echo Drama play a seamless melding of hip hop and reggae that conveys a pure, grooving happiness…it is impossible not to dance and sway to the infectious music” –Tone Deaf
In 2019 the band released their anticipated debut full length album “Before It All Ends”. The mammoth 14 track record was the follow up to the band’s 2014 EP “Bury The Weapons” and was patiently produced over three years, ensuring every detail was just as the band had intended. This is an album of Dub in many flavours and a reminder that Echo Drama are making music unlike any other act on our shores. November of 2019 saw this feat recognised with the honour of Music Victoria’s award for Best Reggae and Dancehall Act.
“While respectfully doffing their various bits of headgear to those who came before them, Dub/Reggae juggernaut Echo Drama have prioritised good music over pigeon holes in a band where the musical influences are almost as diverse as its audience appeal” – Beat Magazine
