With a new look, a new feel and new timing…Australia’s premier Island, World, Roots & Reggae Festival Reggaetown, set in lush tropical Far North Queensland a few kilometres north of Cairns, is back for 2010. And, for the first time, taking place over 2 days — Friday 10th & Saturday 11th of September — in our idyllic location at Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park.
Fans from across Australia and the globe will make their way to Cairns, for yet another stellar Reggaetown line-up. In 2010 we are proud to present a special performance by the JOHN BUTLER TRIO. With their new album 'April Uprising' wooing crowds around the globe the trio will return from international touring, to take part in the festival.
Reggaetown will feature another Australian band who have gained incredible momentum on the international touring circuit, Ska, Jazz & Latin kings The Cat Empire. Alongside Tiki Taane (Salmonella Dub) with DJ Samobora (Shapeshifter) doing a DJ/ACCOUSTIC/MC set, plus Dancehall/Reggae band Nea Combo Diffuzion, direct from New Caledonia. Also gracing this killer line up are Ladi 6, Ykson, Sista Itations, Zennith, Kingfisha, Mama Kin, Clairy Baby Browne and The Bangin’ Rackettes, Ancient Instinct, The Nicky Bomba ReggaeTown Allstars and many more acts still to be announced.
Reggaetown World Music Festival has become an important and anticipated part of the region’s cultural landscape, as well as an iconic festival on Australia’s national calendar. Community spirit and participation has been a core attribute for the festival since its humble beginnings in 1995.
Reggaetown has been listed alongside WOMADelaide and the Byron Bay Bluesfest as one of Australia’s premier festivals. In 2010, with the support of the community and government, the festival is set to be bigger than ever.
Reggaetown not only showcases an eclectic mix of music, bands, DJs and sound systems, but also roving performers, kids activities, workshops in music and dance, plus cafes, garden bars and market stalls. ‘USE YOUR TIME’
The first single to be lifted from the debut album ‘Minds Believing’
by Australian Hip Hop artist UNDERTOW
Undertow is no stranger to the stage - under the alias DTech MC, he’s
rocked the mic at drum&bass and breaks events week-in, week-out for years.
DTech MC, has toured nationally, fronting Triple J Unearthed winning live
dnb/grime/electronica act Kobra Kai and MCing alongside nearly every A-list
drum&bass international that has arrived in Australia.
There is something about hip hop, though, that makes Undertow keep
coming back to it. It is the opportunity to combine lyrical complexity, a deep
engagement with real life and the energy, the showmanship and panache that
has marked him out as a pro and a guaranteed crowd-mover whatever the
genre.
The first single to be lifted from the debut album ‘Minds Believing’ is USE
YOUR TIME, featuring SPEx, singer-MC and Undertow’s fellow Kobra Kai
vocalist. It is a track about making the most of life; it has a positive and
motivated spin, which resonates throughout many of the songs on the album.
USE YOUR TIME also touches on how to do things differently in regards to
life and music. Time to get shit together basically… And we can all relate to
that.
The LP Minds Believing has been brewing with Undertow for a long time.
With the album release and an East Coast album tour in May, he aims to
imprint his name on the ever-growing Australian hip hop scene.
The debut album MINDS BELIEVING will be released May 10, 2010
Through FOREIGNDUB/VITAMIN
